Is it possible to empty a compost bin?

I've got some higher quality stuff I'd like to put in it.

No - you'll have to wait or make a new one

In fact, I'd suggest making a newer, higher quality bin. The bin softcaps the mulch produced. (If it doesn't, nobody has corrected the wiki yet.)

Depends on how many you have to pick, if you can see them all (skills) and the amount of mudflats in your area.
There are worse quests (pick glimmer/bluebell/edelweiss, tame something).
