If something is hardcapped by a skill then.. Say you craft a stone axe, hardcapped by survival. You have 6 survival and it's q10 and q10 stone and branch.
The quality of the stone axe will be ( (10 + 10) /2) + 6 )/2 Resulting in a q8 stone axe.

Forragables are hard capped by survival. So if you attempt to pick a q30 stinging nettle with 6 survival it will end up q6, but it for try to pick it with 45 survival, the nettle will remain q30

Animal husbandry most likely.

I have the skill, but no recipe? What does it cost to build?

i assume the first example was meant to be soft capped?

Need ropemaking and a ropewalk to discover rope.

A finery forge in combination with the fuel used can softcap bloom during the process of making wrought iron.

Is the finery forge softcapped by materials?
Does it work just like the smelter?
Does this go for steel too?

Um, your wording is a little odd for the first question: Finery forge quality is determined by the quality of the input materials. Think that's your question. Don't know the formula, probably same as legacy.

No it doesn't. Smelter actually boosts the quality of any bars it produces with its quality as well. Finery forge only lowers it if the ore quality is higher than the quality of the finery forge.

If it works like legacy, steel crucible would be the same as finery forge. Downgrade quality only.
