It really depends on the structure. Some places and items use inner, some use the bark texture. Best to check a guide.

That's why I asked :P this guide only say "blocks" without specifying anything

If you look at the imagines and see the items labeled "block," it's fairly obvious, I think. But maybe not... There have certainly been others post disappointment on using the wrong texture/color of a block in a certain spot.

A little drab but the more I look at it the more I like it

It's just larch blocks, sallow boards, sandstone (main) and dolomite (secondary).

The mansion seen some months since this picture was taken but I can't play right now, so this is the latest picture I have.

The observent eye will see what it is made of, but for everyone else...

stone: basalt
block: walnut
primary boards: kingoak
secondary boards: larch
metal: cast iron
thatching: tarsticks (took some time to get enough of them)

hope you like it :)

So, this was somewhat of a boundary pushing design. I wanted to create something different, but not too out there. Whether I succeeded or not, I like it. Was expecting a bit more contrast in the Quince (Primary Boards) And Elderberry (Doors). And also between the Hazel (Roof) and Planewood (Trim). I also was surprised at all the white in the Blackthorn Pillars. I went with Flint for the primary stone which IMO could have been something better, but I felt the Iron Ochre (Secondary stone) was spot on, for what I wanted there. A few iron bars for the metal and there it is. :)

P.S. So, I don't know how to make the image larger like others here.. :geek:

It looks nice! Good job :)

As for that quote... Just wanted to share something that some people ask me from time to time and I've explained it a few times privately but I keep meaning to share it here since I'm sure a lot of people could use the info.
It's nothing new and many have explained that already, but I think it is always useful to say it :D

Due to how the materials system work, you can make Tarstick roofs with very little amounts of tarsticks if you have the patience to gather boughs and have some spare straw.
The only requirement is for tarsticks to be the most used thatching material from each type.

For example:
You can make a tarstick roof Stone Mansion with as little as 8 Tarsticks if you use the following materials:

8 x Tarsticks
7 x Elm Boughs
7 x Fir Boughs
7 x Alder Boughs
7 x Spruce Boughs
7 x Yew Boughs
7 x Straw

This can be used with any materials in any building, to be honest. Just remember that for this to work nicely you must only have ONE COLOR for this material - that is, no "Board 2", "Board 3"... etc. But with a lot of patience you can even make, I dunno... A Cherry Knarr with only 10 cherry boards :P
For those cases you must make sure the amount is at least more than twice the second most used :)

I reduced the amount of tarsticks by using 1 other type of thatching, but that is far more effective. Thanks for sharing.

I know the front page of this thread needs an update, and Amanda was kind enough to send me many links. I've been pretty busy the last week or so since she sent them to me, but I promise I'll get it fixed as soon as I have the time to sort through it and make it look good. (I'll see about at least getting links in place this evening.)
