Is there some sort of prevention from having new characters randomly spawn within the same tile as an active claim? I have a new hearthfire near my base (in render radius on spawn) and I'm not sure if it's just a random newbie or if it's a scout alt for the inevitable zerg raid.

Search isn't giving me this one: Boat wikis talk about "Deep Water" and "Oceans."

Will the deep water at the center of rivers kill a dugout/rowboat? Or is there a third tier of water that is visually distinct and I'll know it when I see it?

The Ocean "Deepest Water" does not occur in freshwater, and therefore will never be in rivers. As you assume, it is a visually distinct third tier, but saltwater is also visually distinct from freshwater (a greener turquoise as compare to freshwater's blue) so you'll know when you're entering an ocean.

In short, rivers and lakes will never damage your boat (unless you enter a Whirlpool) and you have to go pretty far into a massive ocean to enter this deepest tier of water.

Rad, thanks.

Followup: Does a rowboat need to be tarred for river/lake travel, or just for suicidal ocean voyaging?

On the map, "deep" and "deeper" ocean are distinguishable. However, the tiles for the scene render are visually identical, so make sure to steer clear of the deepest tiles in any boat unless you want it to take damage.

Are you asking as "is this a possibility" or "one actually landed on my claimed land?"

Is it possible, no, not that I'm aware as this used to come up on a semi-regular basis, but was fixed as new characters were getting stuck on other people's claims behind closed palisades*. As for the latter part of the post... maybe? you can never be sure if a hearthfire near you was placed by a random player looking to be a griefer or just some random new character spawn until it is too late.

*I'm PMing loftar on this just to be sure.

New characters can't actually spawn on your claim, but there is nothing preventing them from spawning near or even adjacent to it, if that's what you're asking.

Search fails again, probably because of the specificity:

2nd P.Claims cost 4kLP. Okay, fine.

What if I destroy my first P.Claim before I making the second? Is it the 2nd you build, or the 2nd you own at any given time?
