A mine hole creates a 7x7 space underneath. If there is anything in that 7x7 space (a crate, log, stockpile, cart, etc) will it not allow you to build it? Or does that only apply for the ladder?

Im building a underground base and am trying to save as much space as possible, while making sure no one can mine hole in.

I would test this yourself if I am you. Rely on word of some forum man for entire base security seem dubious to me.

I think it's just the 3x3 space occupied by the mine hole itself, but I'm not 100% sure.

Please correct me if i'm wrong but after testing it myself and tracking an alt to the exact location. Then moving him out of the way. I was unable to build a mine hole (with it stating "the area below is occupied") even with a 9x9 space below as far as i can tell it seems your unable to build a mine hole if the area below is claimed? it seems weird to me as well. but that's what my test confirmed? Can anyone else confirm this??

My base is located in a cavern terrain I doubt that would effect anything.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's just wierd... Sometimes it's clay, sometimes snow...

That does seem strange. Maybe you should make bug thread.
