How to get lots of ash

I noticed you can get ash by successfully making a firebrand. Is there any other way that is faster?

Make a fire and light it. Then use sticks on the fire for a quick and easy firebrand. It's easier than gathering 2 sticks and manually making one. That shit uses 90% of your stamina and takes 5 minutes to do.
