Staking a claim/theft prevention.

I'm wondering how I keep random people that wander by from stealing my things. Currently I'm trying to build a cabin, but how do I keep people out?

Right now the only sure way I know of is to put containers and items in Lean-to.

Hearth fire outside blocking the door. Ancient trick that works until people get vandalism skill (2-3 more days).

Buy hearth magic skill, make dream catcher, wait bazillion hours (more than 2 at least), harvest dream and build it through the adventure menu.

Ok thanks! I got that working right now. What about after the first few days? How will it work then? fences and locks? Is there such a thing as a claim?

Skill to buy claim is Yeomanry, get Farming, The Will to Power, Hearth Magic to unlock it, but even with just a claim you're not that safe.
If you're more than one in your camp, me and my friends used this technique in the previous world before we got a real wall up:

Problem is... if you can bash that HF, you can bash the fence much, much easier.

By no means a proper defense, what it serves is to force people to leave scents to enter (requires a claim). This keeps out casual thieves.

It's not a replacement for a palisade and later brick wall, it's a stepping stone towards it :)
