How to make Charcoal?

Trying to light my ore smelter and cant seem to work out how to get charcoal.

You can get "coal" by burning wood block in Tar Kiln

Can you expand on this? I'm only getting Tar from my tar kiln.

Once things are finished I have Tar in "stone container" near the pipe and coal in the "hole" (where wood block used to be)

Ah alright, so you have to wait for it all to burn out before you get any coal. Thanks.

For charcoal - yes, something about 10 ingame days (~3 real days IIRC). Alternatively you can mine coal from underground (this world you need to go to level 2 or bellow for that though).
