Five minutes ish to approximitaly infinity. It's really long, but afkable and the food produced is of superior quality to just plain roasting. Haven't timed it precisely and I was probably the one who started the five minutes rumour XD

If you can make the spit you can use it. I can't honestly remember if anything unusual unlocked it or if it came with hunting and string discovery.

Make spit, right click spit onto firepit (not sure if temp fire works, haven't tested). Right click cleaned rabbit or chicken corpse onto spit. Click turn until timer is done. Click carve.

There's an addition timer that starts, not sure what that's all about yet.

In the description of the item I think it said it only works on fireplaces.

Just for confirmation since nobody has specifically said they've tried it themselves, I have and I can also confirm that Roasting Spits can't be used on temporary fires. Before reading the item description carefully I made one and spent a few minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't set it up over the (temporary) fire I had just started. After re-reading the description I made a stone fireplace and the Spit went up first try.

Anyone actually managed to cook meat via roasting spit? I've been turning it for about 15 minutes now with no progress.

Looks like you lose the bone material from roasting cleaned chickens this way.
