Dirt stockpile?

Dirt stockpile?

Is it not possible to create a dirt stockpile of some sort? I am trying to dig down a certain plot of land but since my dirt keeps dropping when my inventory is full, it'll simply decay into the ground and raise itself up again.

set the pile of dirt elsewhere to create a mound, put it in a container or walk over to water and drop it in there.
