Turning things

Sometimes when i want to place crate it looks like the placing "mode" when i make stacks, is there a way to make it hapen every time? And secound question, is there a way to rotate things? it's really hard to place chair face to table, so i can feast. (Sorry for my bad english)

Hold ctrl to rotate the item, shift to drag it off grid

You got it the wrong way around.

ctrl to move things off the grid, shift+mouseswheel to rotate. shift+ctrl+mousewheel to rotate one pixel at a time.
