Build a table and chair, place Symbel items on the table which provide bonuses in the top box. Place food you wish to eat on the table. Use the table interface to eat. You should get a fork (haven't checked latest version for changes yet... just getting set up). Use this to eat off the table. You should get more FEPs and not fill hunger up as much. I'm not sure if you'll fill more energy or not. Quality on everything will improve bonuses.

If you get a village up, you can build a bonfire for lots of people to gather round and share in a feast, and this should increase bonuses even more, both from quality of the bonfire and number of people there if I recall right.
