Can you make better sacks and packs with leather? If so, how do you unlock them?

6 leather and 4 string makes a backpack that gives you two colums

Birch backpack gives you one column of 4 slots, Leather backback 2 columns, 8 total slots.

I'm not asking how to make it. I can just read the crafting recipe for that. I'm asking how do I unlock it so that I can make it in the first place?

Did you discover both the leather and string? Also do you have leatherworking?

No, I don't have leatherworking. Heh. Is that unlocked with tanning?

My kin are taking care of the tanning so that explains my lack of knowledge about this. I just discovered some leather and wanted to know why I didn't unlock leather packs. Thanks.

I don't think leatherworking is actually a skill anymore. I don't recall buying it and I've been producing leather products. I can't check right this moment, but I suspect it's just tanning now.

Yup, just the tanning. No leatherworking required, had the same problem

Leatherworking skill no longer exists, indeed, though perhaps it will again.
