Does str affect defense values in combat?

It seems so. Had 30 str and 20 UC, bats didn't dmg me through defensive moves. Now I've got 19 str due to healing , upped UC to 24 and now bats do dmg me. wut?

Or maybe it's agi that affect defensive power? It dropped too due to poultices

I only know the legacy system, but most of stat effects seems to be the same...

Are you sure you were fighting the same level of ants? The faster they move the stronger they are. Apparently it determines quality as well for butcherable animals.

Hunted meats are your best bet at this stage of the game.

I was fighting bats, not ants. Not sure about the q, but before I dropped my stats I didn't encounter a bat that could dmg me and I had lower uc than now

Rarely you'll get animals higher than the base level for that species. They move faster, hit harder, and loot better stuff. It's theoretically possible you found one, although they are at most 1/20 of the mobs spawned so pretty rare.

Maybe they hit you with other type of attack?
Like, you have active blue def and they hit you with yellow

Strength do not affect def at all

tried boars or bears? not sure about horse or badger. aurochs were good for STR, too.
