How to fire?

So you need 5 branches, then a couple of branches to create a firebrand, then you right click the wood to set it aflame, correct? This just doesn't work for me. I am at 1 health and less than 1000% energy, and I can't eat because I can't make a stupid fire. I right click and nothing happens. What gives? I have tried several times.

Firebrands take tons of stamina to make and have a high chance of going out before lighting your fire. Craft the fire brand and quickly right click the fire while holding your breath and hoping for the best. Good luck friend. You can only make 1 per full stamina bar, so don't waste stamina trying to make another until you've regenerated some.

That's what I did, but as I recharged the stamina the energy bar kept decreasing, until I was at 600% down from 4000%, but I thankfully found a fire somewhere else. Maybe it was just a bug.

Before you make a fire, I suggest you make a fireplace. That way you don't have to make an exact number of sticks to fire (you need at least two per firebrand attempt). If the fire is going out you can keep putting in sticks to feed it. Before the bat update you could stockpile blocks/sticks and keep a fire lit indefinitely until you made a house. I believe having points in survival makes firemaking easier. You also should get a wooden cup/kuska/something to hold water to get your stamina back.
