Does boat hunting or sign post hunting work?

Postby dariun » Sat Sep 05, 2015 1:16 pm

As the subject really...does hunting by boat still work and can you still kill lets say a fox/cow/sheep by penning them in with signposts or actual roundpole fences and shooting them?

Thanks!

Boat hunting does not, signposting kinda does (can't shoot over a sign, so you gotta open a hole to shoot through). I'm not sure signposting is going to stay that way, so I'd be careful on any new patches.

Actually arrows sometimes can be shot from a boat.

I succesfully hunted fox and boar from a boat, but they can't stand in the water when they die. The fox was one hit on a land so that was easy, the boar started running when he was low hp, so i could catch up with him on foot and finish him on a land. So it does work in kind of a way, but not like it used to, with the biggest change that anything that dies in a water is lost.

We hunted on rivers, seen animals die on water, dont think your right unless it was stealth patched very recently.

It was just my assumption seeing that rabbits that died on water disappeared instantly, if that's not the case with the bigger animals, than it would be awesome.

Small animals are items technically, and are thus plopped when on water. Arguably corpses should float, or whatever.

does boat hunting work/possible? my answer? yes but not quite like normal.

When you get them to low health they run away from you fast and you have to run after them. But that is tiring and burns a lot of energy and stamina chasing after them. What i discovered is that if two people find an animal, are both in boats, and both carry one boat (four in total). One person should aggro the animal after placing his boat somewhere, the other can use the three boats at his disposal to barricade in the animal (one behind, one on the side and the boat with a player on the opposite side). As long as you do it tightly enough to each of the boats, the animal wont flee and will stay in combat with you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------land edge------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ / _ _ \
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ / :evil: ~~ \ :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------/------------\------------shallow water edge--------------------------------------------

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ __ :) __
Although this is possible with two people, it gets dangerous and risky when hunting boars and badgers. if the non-aggresive player moves around too much, the boar/badger may come after them.
Side note: make sure you have plenty of ammunition, if you try to go get more and move to the side, the animal may start breaking the boat just to try and head in your direction. if you hunt on a river, you can cross to the other side, get stones nearby and return.
Another way I can think of is if you have a strong and weak weapon (strong preferably bow and weak preferably sling or something lower qulaity that strong), you test how many times you can attack the animal (on average due to differing health's of animals) with the weak weapon before they flee. for example on average they may flee after the 8th hit, you hit them seven times and then switch out to your stronger weapon to deal the final finishing blow hopefully. The weaker the first weapon, the closer you can get logically to their low fleeing health. Hope this helps!
The one truth, is that it's all lies.
i thought that they will break signposts to get to you, while u could block with boats before aggro, go to second side of water so they cannot hit u and won't destroy boats because of this, and they don't destroy objects when fleeing too as far as i remember
but things like liftable stone cannot be destroyed, so u can make small sqare with a hole to ride a horse into it and kill it easier. or use cliffs to chase the animal into it so it bounces between you and cliff etc. (good for mammoths cause they are faster if u don't have horse with you and don't die with one hit like lynx, but start to flee with still high hp)
