does boat hunting work/possible? my answer? yes but not quite like normal.
When you get them to low health they run away from you fast and you have to run after them. But that is tiring and burns a lot of energy and stamina chasing after them. What i discovered is that if two people find an animal, are both in boats, and both carry one boat (four in total). One person should aggro the animal after placing his boat somewhere, the other can use the three boats at his disposal to barricade in the animal (one behind, one on the side and the boat with a player on the opposite side). As long as you do it tightly enough to each of the boats, the animal wont flee and will stay in combat with you.

Although this is possible with two people, it gets dangerous and risky when hunting boars and badgers. if the non-aggresive player moves around too much, the boar/badger may come after them.
Side note: make sure you have plenty of ammunition, if you try to go get more and move to the side, the animal may start breaking the boat just to try and head in your direction. if you hunt on a river, you can cross to the other side, get stones nearby and return.
Another way I can think of is if you have a strong and weak weapon (strong preferably bow and weak preferably sling or something lower qulaity that strong), you test how many times you can attack the animal (on average due to differing health's of animals) with the weak weapon before they flee. for example on average they may flee after the 8th hit, you hit them seven times and then switch out to your stronger weapon to deal the final finishing blow hopefully. The weaker the first weapon, the closer you can get logically to their low fleeing health. Hope this helps!
The one truth, is that it's all lies.
