Pali and Land

Im trying to build a huge Pali, a great deal of my land isn't completely leveled.
Some of it goes down hill, others up and so forth. I was wondering do i have to completely LEVEL out all the land to build the road for the pali? Or if it has a slight incline will that work.

about 1 lvl down per tile has been working for me. you can go a little bit steeper with cornerposts as far as i've been able to tell.

If you go one tile of 'wall' per time, aka extend 1 tile, build wall unit, extend, and repeat. You can go down a lot steeper inclines, I got mine going down about 3-4 units a tile that way.
