Inside and outside - edited

Hello. I don't want to screw this up so I am asking. When building the gate you get the option to put it in two ways, like described below. Can you point me which one is correct. I'm guessing the first. Thanx

I'd have to double check when I get home, but I think I had trouble getting through a fence that opened outward like #1 on a horse.

I have mine like #2.
