Question about mine supports

is there a chance that wall can fall down if you placed a mine suppport? ,because when i dig i see like it always start falling something and not sure if it can fall ....i do not trust this mine supports.

If you're in the radius, it's not *supposed* to collapse.

I've had a weird cave in (no rocks fell, but a lot of tiles got destroyed), and jorb noted it wasn't intended/was looking into it.
