Mining?

Postby McSnaipa » Tue Sep 08, 2015 2:28 pm

Well i tried to mine (with my axe?) but i never get something from a wall in a cave... so is there a faster way to get the materials to build the right tools?

Find surface nodes. Or get lucky and find exposed ore veins in caves. Those really are your only choices early on.

yeah we had to get our first metals for pickaxe from surface black ore and blood ore. helped us dig into iron.
This game really needs a great sword...

I suggest you just to mine with stone pickaxe around cave walls. Eventually you will find iron/copper/tin. I got iron and tin and i didnt smelt any surface ores at all.

It varies depending on the area you're in. Sometimes you can mine with 10 str, sometimes you need 80 - It's all chance, so just try mining a tile, if that doesn't work then move 10 tiles away (try the other side of the cave too) and try again.

Repeat until you've found ore, or "Heavy Earth" which I believe has a lower chance of turning into metals.
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

Going off something jorb said, I suspect the reason no one can find anything other than heavy earth/iron ochre is the new rock hardness system. He said each rock type has a base hardness, + hardness nodes influencing it. I'm currently wagering that the better ore types for iron are too hard for beginning miners to ever find.

Just like any other stone on the surface, but incredibly rarely they will have metal ore. They look different (same texture as the ore) so just hit every strange rock you see.

I've just started mining and found some cassiterite... Now what kind of fuel do I need to smelt that ? Can I put tree logs etc or do I absolutely need coal ? I don't have tarkiln. A cave in happened but missed me :D I think I've read somewhere that you need to remove all the boulders. Some walls poped too, can I mine those ? Will I get others cave in before I get a support ?
