Is it actually in-game already? I can't find anything using the search option as the last topic was from 2010 and I didn't discover straw yet so I just want to make sure.
If not, what other ways do we have to make a seed in a pot grow?

it's an herbalist table, and requires plant fiber (flax or hemp), not straw

Off-topic side note: the forums were thrashed when the categories got moved around. Everything still exists from what I understand, but it may take time to get sorted out. The thread.
