Few questions about prospecting

Postby Malke » Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:57 pm

So I have been stocking piling rustroot, and to be honest it has been years since I played the old haven so I don't remember the mechanics of it very well. What I am wondering is to search for ores in caves must I be above ground or can I look for it whilst inside the cave itself? Thanks for any answers.

you prospect the level below you, not the same level, so no.

You have to be above ground, and if you use rustroot extract with 15+ quality (not sure exactly which quality affects it) you will get an arrow if you are within 5-10 squares of ore.

Once I figured out how to get it to work, using the tp map program to line up my caves with the surface map helped a lot In figuring out where a good place to prospect close to tunnels was.

Can anyone confirm this? I mean did someone try to prospect same place with different q extract? I kinda doubt that quality involved here.

I suspect q affects the distance from the node at which the arrow will appear. Higher q means sensing nodes from further away.

5 tiles is the view distance with Q10 extract. I'm not overly interested in trying to farm q40 rustroot for 10 tiles of range when I don't know which quality type is needed. It's pretty safe to assume this is true, but at the same time the benefit is small enough that I really don't think it's worth worrying about.

Guide has a brief blurb on how prospecting works if anyone wants pictures. But it's much easier now, just go try it out :P

The rustroot mechanics have changed. Percxexp seems to have a major impact on rustroot clarity and distance now. Our forager is spotting ore nodes from 20-30 tiles away with q20 rustroot, while the miner with no perc/exp can't tell unless he's basically standing on top of it.

I'm running 40*50 for my exp score, still only seeing nodes from 5 tiles with Q10 extract. How much better is his PER*EXP score?

So if there is ore nearby, it won't say "stone of type X is below"?

You get that and an arrow to the nearest ore.
