Do you need 1 or 2 tiles between your cornerposts ? Thanks

1 if it's a solid wall, 2 if it's a gate.

you can go cornerpost - wall segment - cornerpost, simply because the cornerposts don't give you the option of building another one next to it (you could place another one right next it from build menu if you wanted). to put a gate it needs 2 tiles, but the game will do this by itself if you use "prepare for gate" option.
