Creating Rustroot extract?

I keep getting a error 'You do not have anywhere to place the rustroot extract.'

What am I doing wrong? I've tried the same method for tanning fluid, and several other things. I tried searching about it but I couldn't find an answer, thanks.

For rustroot extract you need a clay jar in your backpack. To make tanning fluid you need an empty bucket in a hand and a full of water one in the other.
