Alts professions

Postby Sollar » Sun Sep 20, 2015 2:52 pm

I want to optimize my alt professions, so that everyone gets two or more professions that naturally go along, and I keep the minimum amount of alts around. What are the best combinations and what skills do they need raising? So far I plan to use my miner/smith as a warrior, investing in str, con, agi and ua. The explorer gets also the e role of a hunter, with investing in MM, perc, exp and survival. I'm also thinking that the farming alt could be the livestock caretaker and cook, raising farming and dexterity? Or should you I mix the farmer and the tailor so that farmer gets the silk and tailoring industry too? How about carpentry? I have never been more than a single hermit in previous games - jack of all trades but master of none, so I need some advice now to make myself more competitive. Please state you alts professions here and their stats

it's not as easy anymore, things are a lot more connected now. for example bows need MM but also carpentry now, so you could make your explorer/hunter also be carpenter. but cooking recipes require perception and cooked meat requires survival, so your explorer/hunter could be cook as well. which is actually fine because you don't need that many points in MM or exploration anyway, but it kinda defeats the purpose to put both your carpenter and cook at risk. honestly it's easier using just one character now.

personally i have used alts before like this: one master character, the crafter, who gets pretty much all skills and mostly cooking, carpentry, farming and sewing, optionally survival as well. one miner/smith, who can also double as a warrior in a pinch. and then two forager/hunters with respectively exploration/survival and MM/UA, who start at one of them but would diversify into the other when they get enough stats, this is so there's always one to fall back on if you lose one.

I'd advocate miner/hunter combined with carpentry added on for making bows. Sewing, cooking, dex, psy on the farmer.

Alts take more work than they used to, so you don't want as many imo.

You were as helpful as a fart in a space suit. You must be really fun at parties. This is the part of the forum where people request help/hints/advice and other people provide help/information. Please refrain if you have nothing helpful to say. I'm sure no one here is as smart as you are anyway.

Interesting, that is quite near to the warning he got for posting this.

On topic: with the new expensive skills you don't want your farmer or miner to die, so miner/hunter combo might be a bad idea...

Didn't intend to be helpful to a person who uses alts and asks how to do it better in a permadeath world pvp game. If a person asks how to better bot should I also refrain cuz it's "how do I" section?

There's a huge difference between using alts and bots. Bots are much more controversial than alts. I'd say alts are considered a gameplay mechanic.

Just curious, what is jorbtar's stance on the whole alting situation? Obviously, right now it is extremely beneficial to have several specialized characters but personally I feel like it removes most of permadeath's charm. So, @jorb, @loftar, have you guys considered some ways to encourage playing one single character or are you fine with the current state of things?

The XP system is directly targetted at that.
