it's not as easy anymore, things are a lot more connected now. for example bows need MM but also carpentry now, so you could make your explorer/hunter also be carpenter. but cooking recipes require perception and cooked meat requires survival, so your explorer/hunter could be cook as well. which is actually fine because you don't need that many points in MM or exploration anyway, but it kinda defeats the purpose to put both your carpenter and cook at risk. honestly it's easier using just one character now.
personally i have used alts before like this: one master character, the crafter, who gets pretty much all skills and mostly cooking, carpentry, farming and sewing, optionally survival as well. one miner/smith, who can also double as a warrior in a pinch. and then two forager/hunters with respectively exploration/survival and MM/UA, who start at one of them but would diversify into the other when they get enough stats, this is so there's always one to fall back on if you lose one.
