First step, open Haven and Hearth forums.

Second Step, ask for tips for finding iron.

Thrid step, get rustroot and decide to prospect for your own iron.

Fourth step, find iron, check thread and find sarcastic posts not actually helping you at all.


((Honestly I just knocked down a wall tile of the mine every 4 or so blocks until I found an iron ore. There's two ore node types now 'blobs' that are very large and round... like blobs, and veins which are 2-5 tiles wide but very very long. So you need to check every few tiles or you may miss a vein.

Another tip, is rustroot effectiveness seems to scale with the percXexp of the character using it, so get your forager to prospect above ground for metals. make a note of where it is overland, and then try and mine to it from a nearby cave.))

Also, kill shubla and steal his iron ore. That is also a good way of finding iron.

I dont have any ore, its in the wall.

there's also a few ore boulders left on the overworld here and there. i think i found two or three getting out of the starter zone (that's over a several hour walk/boat ride), not much but enough for a few basics such as a pickaxe.

Except you also need a anvil and a hammer to make a pickaxe.

i said a few basics. anvil, hammer and pickaxe all fall into that category.
