Choose Striking Weapon?

Is there a way to choose what weapon I use when I pull a chop? Do I have to equip the desired weapon in a certain hand? If so, which hand is it? I just want to equip an axe and a sword at the same time and I'm too lazy to find an animal to do testing on. So far, it's always been the weapon with the lowest base damage that I've hit with, which sucks. I once did a whole spar with a stone axe by accident.

AFAIK, the last equipped weapon is used for chop.
