How to farm silk?

Postby linkfanpc » Wed Sep 30, 2015 7:46 pm

I put a few moths together and they pooped me some eggs, but what do i do now? I've had them for 2 1/2 days, do they just take a while to hatch?
Total misplay.

Eggs are the stable form that you can store for later. They only hatch on an herbalist table.

Going on legacy rules, they then need to eat a mulberry leaf every four hours (real time) after hatching, then after four leaves they become a coccoon. You can then unravel the coccoon over a boiling cauldron to get a silk thread.

The differences that I know of now are that coccoons can be killed to stop them growing into moths, and there's a chance of failure with the coccoons now. (Probably similar to the effect of the old nature belief, now you buy the nature skills for LP)

You also need to keep some live coccoons to repopulate.

Edit: added a couple notes.
Come back two hours earlier.

To expand a little further, after the cocoon stage they metamorphosize into moths which you can then leave again to turn into more eggs. Based on old information you get a chance of up 10 eggs per pair, though from my observation it seems to give double the number of moths as eggs.

When you boil the cocoons you get a number of silk filaments, I think between 1-3, and you need 10 filaments to make 1 silk thread and 10 silk threads to make 1 silk cloth.

I'm currently working on having 100 cocoons at a time to replenish.
