Mulberry Leaves, Will they grow back?

Postby Shrapnelx » Sat Oct 03, 2015 2:49 am

So, ive picked this Mulberry tree over 2 weeks ago, Leaves, Mulberries, Branches, etc.

A while ago, back in week 1 or 2 of this update, Jorb/Loftar said that resources such as trees would replenish eventually.

Now, im completely ok with Mulberries and Branches taking weeks or months to grow back, if at all, but Mulberry Leaves taking more than a real life week seems like a problem.. Silk production would become one tedious task if you had to replant the tree just to get another stockpile worth of leaves..

So whats the deal here?

Far as I can see there's two different types of "regrowth" from trees.

Newly growing trees will receive very regular replenishments to their leaves. These are, far as I can see, achieved by the tree succeeding the next growth check. When they fail (I guess this is determined at planting when they will fail, so said the devs when I was reading about it), no new leaves start growing and you need to rely on the very rare/random decay hits.

So the moral of the story: If you want active silk production, you need to be planting and actively growing mulberry trees at all times. Stunted/fully grown mulberries will not provide much in the way of leaves unless you dedicate a massive area to them.

This is what i was afraid of.. I planted 4 Mulberry trees and it has taken then a full week to grow from 10% to 20%.. which is slow, but very acceptable for tree growth.

It seems that everything from the old Silk system is the same, the only difference is the Mulberry tree, which to keep a full cycle of Silk going 24/7 would require a HUGE amount of trees to be planted.

This seems wrong somehow, i would rather the trees take a week or two to replenish leaves, rather than replanting the trees and waiting 2 months for them to mature.

Keep planting them, they'll spawn a new terrain around them. Plant them on said terrain and you'll see massive growth improvements.

Planted on the same day, same skills/char.

The non highlighted tree? Planted on normal biome soil over a week ago (the soil spread to under it yesterday). Highlighted trees were planted 2 days ago.

It's easily x3 faster on the proper biome.

Alright, so it seems that my 4 Mulberry trees are planted in the correct biome, its the same one i often find them in, if this is their fastest growing rate... Silk will be a slow and valuable resource..

No, the biome you find them in is not the biome I'm talking about.

Both my spruce and my mulberries are spawning a biome I've never seen in game. It might exist but if it does it's super rare.

Surely you've seen at least a couple spots of this biome spawning near your trees?

I think jorb said it was some sort of generic forest biome for tree growing. Here's jorb's statement: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=42941&p=559546&hilit=+tree+forest#p559520

jorb wrote:All trees presently drop basic forest type. Not a bug per se.

In a sense, you need to "cultivate" the land they can grow on. I kinda like the concept, but it's pretty slow to get going, and the growth rates off the preferred forest is kinda brutal.
