Mechanics about cave-ins and ores

Postby ntrophimov » Sat Oct 03, 2015 3:39 pm

Sup guys.

Is there any chance of cave-in inside the radius of support columns?

And what is the best way to find ores? Just mine everywhere I can and see which type of stone will I get there? Or maybe by using rustroot extract inside caves if it's possible?

Also when should I place support columns inside caves? When is it perfectly safe to mine without them?

Thanks in advance.

No, if you're mining a tile that's within the radius of a support beam you should not be able to trigger a cavein.

Use rustroot on the surface to locate ore on level 1 until you have 100+ str. Rustroot reveals information about the layer below you, so using it on the surface will reveal stone and ore on level 1/cave level. Using it inside of a cave will reveal information about level 2 which requires a mine hole to get to and is substantially more difficult to mine through.

Use supports when you've hit ore and you want to mine it all.

If dust falls from a tile mark it with a land survey. Only stand on tiles that have never had dust fall from them and mine tiles adjacent to them. If dust falls from a tile it means that one of the tiles adjacent to it will cause a cavein. A tile that doesn't have dust fall from it means that all 8 tiles around it are safe. Sometimes the first wall you mine into will cause a cavein. Accept that it happened and keep going.

The dust falling indicates a cave-in tile nearby. The entire underground is effectively a giant game of minesweeper.

If you know how to play minesweeper, you can mine without supports.

If you don't know how to play minesweeper, you always need a support.

The best way to get l1 ores is to find a cave, and prospect aboveground above the cave system to find ores, mark where they are and then mine to that spot in the cave below you (the overwold and the cave layer match up perfectly)

Otherwise you can also mine everywhere in the caves to see the stone types, do a tunnel mine to try and find things if you know how to mine without supports or any other trick you want. There's not really a 'true' best way.

Discover rustroot, water, and a clay jar.
