I really don't understand the fate curio system

Postby raindrops » Thu Oct 22, 2015 10:45 am

All I know is that I haven't gotten any curios, seen edel weis or chiming blue bell.

I don't think think they want us to understand it, but I do think they might be/should be testing it and otherwise rethinking the whole system so as to make it interesting.

You were simply not destined to find those.

Don't expect to find them. Don't count on that. Abandon your hopes.

Just be happy when you find them.

All I know is that the VERY FIRST time I raided an anthill I found an ant empress, and the next 100 times I raided ants I didn't find one.

If I had to guess I'd say the fate system works much like the hunger system or the quality system: rewards = sqrt(effort)

Its more like reward = sqrt(-1)....its all imaginary.

Except the ant empress was always about 1/100 chance if I recall right (maybe a bit better).

So what people have gathered so far is that there is some kind of fate meter or a similar mechanic that determines when you are "fated enough". Once those requirements are met (and there seem to be different ones for each fated curio) you will see all of the curios of that kind (if you meet the per*exp requirements) until you pick one of it. Then the meter resets.

If 2 people have met the requirement for the same fated curio they can both see the same ones on the map.

I assume that a lot of curios we kind of feel are fated in fact are not. Like spiders, empresses etc. They are just rare.

Another speculative assumption is that the "fate meter" fills faster for stuff you are not actively seeking. So spend a lot of time in swamps? No bluebell for you. Boiling 100s of mussels a day? Forget about pearls.
