Should I stay or Should I go?

Postby uncleseano » Sat Oct 24, 2015 6:44 pm

Allo luvs.

After setting up a modest sized hermitage complete with almost everything you could need (except tamed animals), I realised that my soil quality is 10-20-10. Garbage in my mind.
So I was thinking that a move might be in order. Now it's annoying as I have a palisade up and everything BUT that soil quality would defo ruin any chance of getting good farmable crops.

SO, is it worth moving on to another location? What soil qualities are worth looking out for?

Seems to me that the one that boosts FEP (the last quality of the three) is prolly the best.

Or should I wait until I get a decently high survival skill so I can accurately test the local regions soil type? (Mine is a whopping 25)

Crop quality is not influenced by soil anymore.

Mostly it's used for trees and anything made from soil (glass at the moment).

You should explore some more before deciding though. Someone in my village was like "I've searched for weeks for soil and not found anything good". 20 minutes later I found ql 50 soil about 4 minimaps away.

Yeah you don't even have to dig much. Taproots and cantrelles use soil Q so you can get a good idea by simply foraging around. Guess I'll hang on here for awhile. Get some good seeds and gear before 'maybe' moving on again

I read that someplace...if I'm wrong it defo explains why I'm in a place with such shit soil.

Does the soil effect the tree quality in the tree planter or after it's actually planted?

only in the pot, where you plant it doesn't matter.

soil affecting forageables is no more, that's from the old legacy version.

As I understand it, if you have high soil quality, it may give you a small boost at the start, i.e. if you had q 50 soil you could get up to Q50 Plants fairly quickly. However it is defiantly not needed and it's pretty easy to raise crop Q's even in bad soil.

Not only that but foragables are all on their own quality table now. You can pick a 10/10/10 chantrelle right next to a 20/25/25 nettle. So if you truly want to maximize your foraging you need to remember the good spot for nettles, good spot for chantrelles, etc.
