How to bow good?

Postby Anshelm » Sat Oct 31, 2015 7:09 pm

What level of skill is needed to have a 80% chance of hitting an animal with a bow. is it like 30 or 40 marksmanship? Do I need higher perception? How much perception if it's needed?

so you're unlikely to get any really certain answers for exact numbers, but at around 30MM with a bow at least Q15 and some decent arrows you'll hit the vast majority of the time (provided you aim enough)

not really sure how much perception will affect this but you're gonna have it high enough most likely for foraging anyway

An approximate number was all I was looking for. For now I have 12MM with a Q4 bow and I can't hit anything for the life of me. Do you know what the archery target is for? Or is it just to test your accuracy.

Archery target is for practice (and you can make a curio by hitting an arrow in the same spot twice). Point your cursor at the ground under the target, not "on" the target. That is a common problem that can cause missing.

The bow is your problem. Due to how haven quality formulas work, <q10 works horrendously. Get your skills up to at least 10 surv, 10 carp to supplement your MM and make a new bow.

With a q10 bow I can reliably hit from 3-4 tiles away, after aggroing a mob to a cliff to aim at it.

I just made a new bow with quality 7 string and quality 10 bouh. It made a quality 6 bow. I have level 7 survival at the moment so that's the best I could do. I'm not going to level carpentry because that would be a waist of LP for this character.

If you're hermitting without neighbours to trade with, long term you'll regret working with inferior tools. Generally speaking, hermits want every skill up to 20 eventually just so they don't trash things at raw Q10.

If you have friendly neighbours: Ask to trade. They can probably make a Q10+ bow easily.

Otherwise: Mirkwood offerings. Get your stealth up to 10 so you get an extra 150-200lp/mirkwood and start running those. You'll have the LP you need for <20 skills in no time.
