How to Shoot Properly?

I finally made a bow, a quiver and some bone arrows. However, I shot a hen many times and non of the arrows hit the target What should I do???

Hens have a very small hitbox, they are quite hard to shoot. Are you waiting for the aim bar to be full and pointing in the right direction?
You can also practice on the archery target.
