questions/problems discovering new melee skills...

Postby cattboy » Sun Nov 22, 2015 4:36 am

Hello hnh family

Any tips to unlock or discover new melee skills? I cannot find any new melee skills and ive killed a hundred foxes/horses/boars/badgers/bats

Specifically looking for cleave zigzag sting.

Is there a hidden cooldown on learning new skills? As in, if I learn a punch, will that take away from learning a different skill?

If an animal has a discovery, and I obtain it or dont, can I spam skills (def skills) on that same animal to learn more?

Bears are too hhard for me, not enough agi... but how hard is a lynx? What deflect is needed to stop all dmg and do they have any special attacks (akin to boars tusk romp? ).

Many thanks

You need to be in a position to do an attack to get the discovery for it, I think.
So if you're looking for cleave you need a heavy edged weapon, and lots of IP. Sting you need a sword/spear, and 3ip, zigzag you need 5ip, etc.

This is probably why I don't have zig zag, low blow, cleave... Thanks for pointing it out.

You can get cleave with a sword (not sure if thats heavy weapon or whatever). I got cleave fighting a bear, having enough IP, and punching it along the way befor the discovery took place. Zig zag from boar fight. Sting from boar fight.

Sword does count as a heavy edged weapon, apparently.

Thanks for the help.

Nothing yet but imma spam take aim + think to get high ip and punch down some defs while holding my sword.
. Maybe try a b12 or something.

Is there a limit to the amount of cards you can discover? I have 11 punches :<

No. I hadn't had any discoveries until I tried the ip stacking today, got 3 so far =).

1 Discovery per fight but sometimes you could not get one at all, dropping aggro and re-aggroing the same enemy gives you another chance to gain a discovery (unless you did not get a discovery at all, I haven't had any luck trying again at that point). Some animals will have a better chance to give certain cards, like bear and lynx for cleave. The stuff about equipment you have on during the fight may or may not be true, I am not certain this has been 100% confirmed.

Pretty sure loftar said something to that effect at least for cleave (i.e., you need to be in a position to do the attack, i.e. heavy edged weapon and 7ip), which is why I've been saying that (also my experience but not sure that is statistically significant), but now I cant find the quote, lol.
