Why do my leashed untamed animals keep despawning?

From what I heard if you don't tame them in time they will unleash then despawn.

They do despawn after like 24h+ if you miss your taming window on them, and we believe that that is the explanation.

Can confirm they dont despawn. I missed taming window of my auroch some time ago, waited 3-4 days and nothing happent.
