how to use a barter stand?

I am a newb when it comes to these and I have got a carrot in a container with a giving hand, and a taking hand in another container. i think i have set sand to be the traiding item for the carrot (sand shows up in the area for quantity and quality) what is the button to trade it?

The red hand takes, and needs to be in the container for the things you sell. The green hand gives, and needs to be in the container receiving the payment. You also need to set a quantity (how much payment you expect) in the box above the three quantities (enter number and press enter), done that a 'buy' button appears so you can test the setup.

I've been trying this is all kinds of iterations. Swapped the hands in case I was wrong there but that doesn't seem to be the issue. I set eggs to trade and that seems to go ok. But when I put in what I want in return it doesn't seem to work. I click on the change button, select a bone then put 1 as quantity, and 25/25/25 as qualities and then click connect. I get the red hand in my inventory, I put it in an empty container right next to the one with the eggs and the green hand. I end up with this though when I approach it as a stranger with a 45/25/25 bone in his inventory:



It's showing my eggs, but there's no "buy" button.

What am I doing wrong?

You haven't set the quantity of bones to require for an egg. That's the little text-box to the right of the bone.

Did you press enter when entering the numbers into the boxes, especially on the quantitiy?

Did not press enter. Clicked in box, typed number, click in next box. Hitting enter fixed my problem. I've played this game for a while and I know there's a lot that isn't intuitive, but this one is really quite something...
