Starting Up

So I just started and I read around here that when you create a character you're supposed to cross a river to see some wizard but all I see is a floating orb in an empty room with some arch in the corner. Whenever I click somewhere on the floor or use the arrow keys I don't move or do anything. The menu, inventory and chat all show up and work fine. I'm using a mac if that helps
