Question about the new system

It's been 3 months since the game has been released and I still have no idea why we have 3 kinds of qualities. What are they for?
I have a yellow field of carrots and a purple one. I'm keeping it like that just in case. Do anybody here knows it?
I havent tested a thing though.

Well, for carrot, Essence reduces satiation, Substance reduces hunger gain, Vitality Increases FEP gain. Same for all foods.

Well, I also had no idea, so thanks for that. I have just been keeping the variety of colours of the same quality just to be sure I wasn't missing something.

Do you also know how they affect tools by any chance, like your axe, saw and pickaxe?

I missed your reply on this yesterday and would also just like to say thanks! I hadn't realised this much had been worked out and was available on the wiki, which is a little bit embarrassing when I'm always telling people to read it and then not paying attention to updates on it myself.

It is much more important than I was aware to understand what each colour does and where it's best used. The maths is still Martian to me, lol, but knowing the affects on armour for me at the moment is crucial, learning to fight the various animals without my trusted sling is costing me a small fortune when it comes to replacing pieces of armour ....

It is also a bit more fun as a system than I imagined it was ... so apologies also to the devs for previously just dismissing it as a 'stupid, unnecessary and pointless' mechanic without even looking at it .....
