Ore Tier List.

Postby InfernoI » Fri Dec 11, 2015 9:35 am

Trying to set up a list for all known ores in the correct tier order. The higher the tier, the better chance at getting a bar or nugget.

Iron-
Tier 1: Heavy Earth
Tier 2: Iron Ochre
Tier 3: Bloodstone
Tier 4: Black Ore

Copper-
Tier 1: Malachite

Tin-
Casserite

Silver-
Tier 1: Galena
Tier 2: Silvershine

Gold-
Tier (?): Leaf Ore
Tier (?): Schrifterz

Mixed Ore Types-
Chalcopyrite: Iron/Copper
Horn Silver: Iron/Silver

This is all ores I know of so far. Maybe later I will try to include pictures of the ore walls, for better reference.

Are we sure horn silver actually yields iron? I've never seen it yield an iron bar after many a smelt. Is it bugged or something or does DA increase the chance of getting silver? I think schrifterz is worse than leaf ore. Have heard stories of the former yielding a mix of pebbles and nuggets.

List of ores already exists here: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Ore
Along wih pictures for references and tested smelting chances. Saying this so you spare yourself the effort.

I'm gong to add in with known depths of certain ores, because the wiki's data is lacking. This is based only on my limited experience so take the rarity with a grain of salt. I don't mention an ore at all if I've never seen it in that layer. For example, I've never seen Casserite anywhere other than the cave level and never seen Malachite outside of level 3, but malachite seems to be quite rare so it's hard to test. And I've barely scratched level 5. It would be great if someone who's done more mining could help.

Black Coal is available everywhere, but does not form boulders.

Level 0 (Surface)
Presumably all metal ores can exist as boulders (extremely rare)
Level 1 (Cave level)
    Heavy Earth (common)
    Iron Ochre (uncommon)
    Casserite (uncommon)
Level 2
    Iron Ochre (common)
    Heavy Earth (common)
    Bloodstone (rare)
    Chalcopyrite (rare)
Level 3
    Iron Ochre (common)
    Bloodstone (uncommon)
    Malachite (rare)
    Direvein (rare)
    Galena (rare)
Level 4
    Black Ore (uncommon)
    Schrifterz (rare)
    Direvein (rare)
Level 5
    Black Ore (common)

I've never seen Leaf Ore, Silvershine or Horn Silver.

Black coal exists in form of boulders, you can dig them from a cellar. Maybe it's just not spawned in the world, or no one found them yet?
Anyway, for me iron ochre was way more common than cassiterite on L1,
And i have found black ore on L3. Also lots of heavy earth there.

@Asgaroth22 still a good thread to get some info though, the cave level column is pretty much empty still.
@lachlaan i've also not seen horn silver produce iron, only silver nuggets.

cassiterite is on L5 as well, bloodstone and horn silver are too.

I didn't see wiki was actually up to date on ores lol. Sorry. So much of the wiki isn't any where near up to date, and I've tried helping out myself, but I just really don't understand the format very well at all.

If you're not sure if a page is up to date, type in the search box Legacy:<page name>, if such page exists then your page is almost certainly up to date.

What I had meant to say is that so much is out of date, that I haven't really been bothering with the wiki lately. I wish I could do some of the pages myself but I just don't have those technical skills, without at least some one to help walk me through it.
