Steel Quality

Postby Valkoria » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:51 am

Does the quality of fuel for producing steel impact the quality of the steel itself? Or is it only the Crucible/Wrought Iron/Coal quality that impacts it?

Also, does anyone know how long it takes to smelt? Wiki says 56 hours but that's from legacy so I don't know if its accurate.

Thanks!

Yes, i believe fuel quality has an impact on steel quality. I'll say for sure today or tomorrow when my batch of steel finishes.
56 hours is correct. Fully fuelled steelbox burns for 12 hours.

Quality of steel is equal to wrought iron used, softcapped with some combination of steel crucible, coal and fuel qualities.

If steel quality is important, use branches split with your best tools instead of unsplit blocks and good coal instead of branches if you can spare it.

The softcap is the mean of crucibleQ, fuelQ and coalQ

ie cap=(crucibleQ+fuelQ+coalQ)/3

steelQ=min(wroughtQ, (wroughtQ+cap)/2)

where all the quantities are now 3-tuples and the min is applied to each component.
