How much space are needed for a tree to fully grow up?

Any one know how much space are needed for a tree to fully grow up? My trees stop growing :(

They get stunted randomly. You can plant them next to each other, it won't affect the stunting.

W3-W13 - mostly hermit, with a few brief periods as a crafter/farmer to various villages

Indeed, growing trees is very random - they just stop for no reason. Wish it was fixed or atleast explained by developers of this magnificent game! :D

Without max skills this happens often.
But even with max skills sometimes trees stop growing or grow VERY slowly. Even though others next to it grow normal speed, same biome etc.
