Best Trees for Tree Farming

Postby NeoBasilisk » Mon Jan 04, 2016 12:00 am

Is there anything resembling a consensus on the "best" trees to farm? Obviously ones with unique properties such as mulberry, apple, etc. have purposes. But I'm talking purely for lumber. Whether a tree type has boughs or not would seem to be very significant. I know there are also differences in the number of logs/branches/bark/boughs per tree and the number of blocks/boards per log. I assume there are also differences in growing time.

So, are there any general best practices people have found?

That's a pretty good question, the wiki hasn't been updated with all the information yet.

Most people in Legacy grew spruce for the boughs, cones and decent amount of wood. Purely for lumber, beech appears to have the most wood per log, though pine has 3 of them so take that as you will.

There's a page on the wiki, I might update it as I'm curious too.

I make a list, that tree will give you how many boards / blocks using different tools. I do this in mine free time, so slowly it goes. As I finish, then I share it, for now I can say that the most cost-effective trees are king's oak and beech indeed ( beech gives more than king's oak, but king's oak gives 4 logs, while beech 2 ). I'm working also on the list of bushes and hardness of rock (that rock is harder than the other)

You also don't have to worry about forest biomes clashing like in legacy right? Forest terrain is the same for all trees?

I would say pine/kings oak is best for farming large quantities

Pine gives same amount of blocks/boards like king's oak, but kings oak gives one more log.

King's oak for wood and beauty, spruce for boughs, mulberries for high q silkworms

I still hate myself for bothering to farm silk this world as a hermit
