How even must land be for Palisade?

Title says it all. I'm building my third palisade wall. the first two I went and levelled out the ground completely the whole way around. Now I'm looking for shortcuts. Can it be uneven? If so, how much is too much?

I believe the maximum threshold for objects is the highest point can only be 5 units higher than the lowest point.

Pretty sure when my brother was building at the start of the world he discovered you could raise it three levels per tile if you built it 1 tile at a time. He had a pretty steep corner in his settlement that he was too lazy to level.

IIRC this was 5 tiles from top point to bottom point.

Remember that at the greatest possible elevation you won't be able to build more than one segment at a time.
