Safe trading question/advise

hey guys,

I was wondering, how do you trade safely as a solo player. Or even a small group/village.

Im not really interested in 'hermit to hermit' trades, as i really don't think they are safe for either side. (willing to be convinced)

But if i wanted to say, find a large village or trade hub to trade with that's not on my doorstep... how would i do that without the warping of the older worlds?

(PS sorry if ive missed a forum post about this, please shout at me and link me to the correct thread if i have)
