Laggy?

Postby evilboy666 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 2:36 pm

My fps is so unstable in game, ranging from 2 to 40 even with trees etc unshown. Is is because my pc is is no longer up to par or the server lags?

HnH is horribly coded and optimized.

this has nothing to do with it. Java as a language is more than capable. Just look at what you can play on your Android tablets. The restriction is the available RAM and processor speed.

This is it. What client are you using, evilboy? Where you getting frame rate issues? Maybe you could look at a different client or make a suggestion to whomever modded the one you're using.

HnH client lag is not that much dependant on what client you are using.
Default client is just coded so badly that it cant be optimized properly without (almost) complete recode.
Jorb and loftar probably know that. If fixing laggy client would be easy they probably would have already done it.
Or then you can hide all objects and make them look 2 dimensional boxes.

I have 2-3 clients but i mainly use the amber client. Generally it runs at 15-20 fps. But i think if i get too many stuff in my screen like a village with many people in it or a fight with many people i am worried it will go completely numb like to 2 fps the whole time. I guess ill need to cut off 3d objects and try to improve my pc.

improving your PC wont help that much until certain point.
Big villages and fights with many players will still kill your fps quite effectively.

I use Amber and I run at 50/60 fps, the only time I've noticed it dropping to 30 is when I have the grid on for terraforming. I have sounds etc all on and it doesn't affect the fps on mine.

There's definitely some things going on with different graphics processors and such. I've heard of people with fairly new mid to high end nVidia cards having major frame rate issues while people with mid to low end systems have little FPS loss other than in heavy congestion situations. I'll note I'm referring to systems from the last one to three years, not necessarily one that barely meets system specs of OpenGL 2.0.

To be fair, there exist intermediate steps between "easy" and "impossible without complete rewrite". If it makes you feel better, I have some ideas that I am working on.
