How to block animals from fleeing?

Postby aemaru08 » Mon Feb 22, 2016 9:29 am

Hi!
I'm a solo hobo Hermit and I really need help regarding Bear Hunting. I've seen in some posts that there's a method for hunting based on cliffs and following the animal, but when I've tried to do so, the animal (bear) is hard to follow, and even harder to find another place to attack it again.

There's actually any method to kill bears with a Bow/Sling and avoid them from fleeing? I tried to block their path with boats but they destroyed them, and I'm afraid to test more ways, becouse I already lost 2 alters on tests.

Best regards!

Hunting solo is shit especially in early game.
You could try getting it to shallow water corner and then block it with boat. Then shoot it from another boat. So when it tries to flee. Boat blocks it way, and currently they dont destroy objects on their way if theyre fleeing.

I tried that and a Bear destroyed the boat that was blocking the way. Do I have to do any other step I may be missing?
Btw, how much MM do you need to use the bow from the boat? I miss all my shoots. When I fire from the other side of a river, I miss 2/3 times.

I dont know exact amount. But with 4-6 you are able to hit atleast sometimes.

you cannot shoot from a boat, you must jump outside and swim/shoot or shoot it from the other side of the river

Lure them to a pointy edge in shallow water by aggroing them from your boat. Move away from them and click de-agro on the portrait in right top.
When it is de-aggrod you go back to location, hop out of your boat and shoot it. If the edge is pointy enough it won't have moved and you will get a free shot.
When shot, hop in your boat quickly and move away from shallow water.

Because you did not have it aggro'd and it has a way to pathfind a way to you, it will not flee. Make sure to shoot from a spot where it can actually get to you (which is also the thing that brings you in danger). This is why it is not possible to shoot from the other side of a river, as the animal won't be able to get to you, so it will run.

Repeat the steps till the animal is dead, works for all animals.

I killed bears, deers, lynxes, mooses, everything. All solo, all with a Q8 bow and Q10 arrows, under 10 MM and all without losing a single character.
Be prepared to receive some wounds and get KO'd once in a while though.

Good luck.

It works best on big animals by the way, since it is easier to hit them with bow and arrow so you can also stand on a safer distance when shooting them. Giving you more time to hop in your boat after releasing the shot. I do advice to practice on smaller animals first, as they won't deal as much damage.

Edit: And definitely don't try this trick on Lynxes for quite some time. They are freakishly fast and very hard to kill, even with this trick. They agro you very quickly, even after de-aggro' ing them and don't give you a lot of time to get to safety.
