To note, these decay hits aren't by tile, but by "map element" or "pixel" or some such. I don't recall the exact term used. Terminology aside, each element is a fraction of the tile, approximately 1/121th of the tile (a tile is 11x11 if I recall a statement from loftar correctly). Trees with small hitboxes are less likely to get a decay hit than ones with large hitboxes like king oak or fir. I'll also note that I don't know how many elements get hit at once--could be a 3x3 section--or how many hits are generated when the map loads.
