How can I meet up with my friends?

I posted something similar to this a few month ago. I went away from the game for a few months, and I was wondering if this aspect of the game had been updated.

You can build a wilderness beacon and your friends can spawn at it. Takes 10 boards, 20 blocks, 20 clay, 20 stones iirc. A friend spawning at it consumes it though so u may need to make multiple.
