Taming... again

Hello, i've tried today to start taming my first mouflon to get a sheep. Besides the fact that it took much less than 24 hours leashed to see him thrashing, i've tried using archery with my sling... i'm still low on combat to beat it, so i put myself in front of my tower door and took a shot, then entered the house: surprisingly, letting the animal drop from combat did not end the taming stance, so in this way may be possible to tame animals with archery...but...in the end i tried to punch the animal, and killed it with a single hit, i saw just a yellow 0 followed by another yellow number, 45. I guess that it's possible, even if hard, to tame an animal in this way and get less of a beat, but who knows...
